R. B. Delk, 88, of Tifton entered peacefully into rest on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Golden Living Center in Tifton. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Tifton’s First Assembly of God with the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley and the Rev. John Thomas officiating. A eulogy will be given by Dale Delk. Mr. Delk will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, August 19, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Delk will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
J. C. McKinney, Michael Delk, Stephen Delk, Jason Slimp, Earl Jackson, Eddie Hayes, Drake Hood and Joe Baptista will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Burnett, Griffin Graves, Bo Fender, Dan Barry, Van Smith, Johnny Whiddon, Ronnie Jo Sumner, Thurman West, Orris Hobby, Bobby Hobby, Lamar Brooks and Arlie Purvis.
Born January 17, 1928 in Tifton, Mr. Delk was the son of the late Rollie Bryant Delk and Myrtle Hurst Delk. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Delk; and a sister, Jean Baldree.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He was a faithful member of the Gideons International for over 50 years.
He and his wife owned and operated Delk Tile and Carpet Company in Tifton for 42 years. He was a member of Tifton’s First Assembly of God for over 50 years and, during that time, served in various capacities, including being a deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and head usher.
Mr. Delk is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucile Whitley Delk of Tifton; his children and their spouses, John Delk, Mike and Cyndi Delk, Dale and Sandie Delk and Joel and Vickie Delk; a sister, Wanda Nevieau; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
