Mr. Daniel Owen Batten, Sr., 78, of Columbus County, NC passed away October 3, 2016 at Columbus Regional Hospital in Whiteville. He was born August 4, 1938 to the late Irvin Spencer Batten and Lula Bell Duboise Batten in Columbus County. Daniel worked many years in the Textile industry at Prelude and Parkdale Cotton Mill. He attended Bethel United Methodist Church in Thomasville, NC and was a member of Cypress Freewill Baptist Church in Whiteville, NC. He also served in the U.S. Navy.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Batten, one daughter Lori Ann Batten, and one brother Arthur Batten.
Surviving is one son Daniel Owen Batten, Jr. of Chadbourn; one brother Frank Batten of Lexington; and one sister Nora Belle Fore and husband Bobby of Whiteville; one granddaughter, Chasity Hewett and two great grandchildren, William Hewett and Alora Hewett.
A funeral services will be held Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 1:00 PM at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Tim Starbuck officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
