Bob was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Kempis Lee Alvey Jr. and Verna Izora Alvey June 13, 1939. At the age of 10, his family moved to California. He graduated from Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, CA. While working at Marineland of the Pacific, he met his future wife, Ann Louise DiMeglio, and they were married August 20, 1960 in San Pedro, CA. He graduated from Long Beach State University and worked as an account and assistant controller for Southern California Gas Company/Pacific Lighting Corporation for 24 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and Army Reserves. In 1988, he accomplished what only a special few golfers do by making a hole-in-one. After his mother's death in 1995, he developed a passion for genealogy and was published in 3 issues of "Kentucky Ancestors" in 2003, chronicling the Alvey ancestry in America beginning in 1657. Additionally, he was a contributor to the book "The Buckman Family of Maryland, Kentucky, Missouri, USA." He was also an avid gardener, wine enthusiast and collector of unique cacti and succulents.
