Harold Johnson Hawkins
VETERAN | US ARMY
1935 - 2016

Harold Johnson Hawkins, age 81, of Centerville and Orem, Utah, passed away September 29, 2016, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Harold lived a great life and will be greatly missed by his dear wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. He was born April 3, 1935, in Davenport, Iowa, a son of Karl and Josephine Hawkins. He married LaRae Kirk on July 3, 1959, and later in life, married Larene Ostlund on April 22, 2005. Harold retired from Hunts Foods after working in sales for over 30 years. He was a member of the ski patrol at Timp Haven/Sundance Mountain Resort. Harold was a passionate hunter and enjoyed fishing on the Provo River and Strawberry Reservoir. His greatest passion was building and working on his cabins in American Fork and Fairview. He loved the mountains and would rather be in the mountains than any place else. His love for the outdoors was contagious and the family loved to spend time together at the cabin working, cutting wood, looking for animals, watching sunsets and hummingbirds, and just hanging out with him. Harold was extremely industrious and a very hard worker. He loved to help people whether it was shoveling snow or helping a stranger on the side of the road. He played football and basketball at Brigham Young University and was an avid BYU fan. Harold served his country faithfully in the United States Army.

Harold is survived by his wife, Larene, of Centerville; his children: Anne (Doug) Liechty, Kim (Greg) Scott and Lynne (Richard) Glassford; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; his sisters: Myrtle (Smitty) Smith, Elizabeth “Betty Jo” Smith, Charlotte England, Arlene (Ron) Oakey, Helen (Dirk) Mellen. He was preceded in death by his first wife, LaRae Kirk Hawkins; siblings: George Hawkins, Karl Johnson Hawkins, Jr. and Dorothy Bee Schofield.
