Rascelas S. McClain was born in the town of Lincoln, Ohio, June 22nd, 1832.
He was married to Sarah Irish Sept. 11, 1851. To them was born three sons; two of them still living. His first wife died Feb. 25, 1857 and Dec. 18, 1859, he was married to Alma E. Lawton, who survives him.
He enlisted in Co. C. 1st U. S. Sharpshooters Aug. 21, 1861 at Detroit, mustered Aug. 26, 1861, promoted corporal, wounded in action at Chancellorsville, Va., May 3rd, 1863, was discharged at Fairfax, Va., Feb. 21, 1864 on account of gun shot would on the right arm, received in action at Locust Grove, Va., Nov. 27, 1863.
He was converted in 1869 and in 1870 joined the Free Methodist church and lived a faithful and consistent Christian life until the end, which came after four weeks illness, June 9th, 1909 at his residence in Coopersville, Mich.
The funeral was held at the F. M. church June 13, Rev. S. W. Ingalls officiating
