Emma was proficient at the piano and painting. At one point when she had just had a baby, the house caught fire, and along with saving the children, she insisted on saving the piano. Her first marriage brought 4 children but only 2 survived.
She developed a cancerous tumor and after many fundraisers which included the sale of many of her 'famous paintings" she took a train to San Francisco for treatment. She made it as far as Ogden, Utah. Her husband was sent for and after a few weeks she passed away and is buried in an unmarked grave.
