LeSUER COUNTY LEADER, Oct. 3, 1901.
"Commit thy way unto the Lord and he will bring you out into a large place." Minerva Vaughn, wife of Lord Brown departed this life Sunday evening Sept. 22nd, 1901 at her home in the township of Kilkenny, at the advanced age of 82 years and 5 months, her death occurred near the old homestead where they settled 45 years ago the 14, of Sept. 1856. Mrs. Brown was born in the State of N.Y. town of Lodi, Seneca Co. April 27th, 1819. March 1st, 1835 she was married to Lord Brown at Wyalusing, Pa. removed from there to Mich. where they remained until the spring of '56 when they came to Minnesota, where they experienced all of the privations and hardships incidental to pioneer life. Eleven children were born to them all of whom survive her. Benjamin who is the eldest, Miranda, Wm W, Newton, Collins, Edward, Amanda, Charles E, Mary Ellen, John and Eugene, the youngest now lives at home with his father. She was the veritable mother in Israel, beloved by all who knew her, kind and considerate to her neighbors, helping the needy with charitable unstinted hand, saying kind words of encouragement to the oppressed in lifes pathway. When the South rebelled against the Union she sent two of her sons to do or die for old Glory, at the first call. When two more of her sons had grown old enough to shoulder a musket she made them go and stay until the country was saved undivided; a true self sacrificing patriot and mother. What more can we say? She has gone to that rest and joy in the better world. May it be as well with us when called.
