Reid was a devoted family man and a beloved friend to many. He is survived by his mother Catherine Basden Barbee; his wife of 41 years Darlene; and his daughters Sarah Barbee Erreca (Michael) and Kelly Barbee Barber (Corey). He was a loving, proud, wonderful and entertaining Papa to grandchildren Abigail, Charlotte, CJ, Aubrey and Marian. He is also survived by brothers Kenneth (Shirley), Craig (Elaine), Neil (Faye) and many nieces and nephews and a large extended family. He is preceded in death by his father, Ormond Barbee.
At an early age, Reid became interested in the trade of locksmithing. He became a full time locksmith in 1975. He continued his career aboard Camp Lejeune for 27 years. Upon retirement, Reid proudly began his business, SafeCrackers Down East Safe and Lock. Reid was a well known and respected locksmith and safecracker. Reid's professional skills were in great demand up and down the southern east coast. In addition to his business, he was a licensed member of the following professional organizations:
North Carolina Licensed Locksmith currently serving on the North Carolina Locksmith Licensing Board. Proud member of the North Carolina Locksmith Association having joined in 1976. He proudly served in various positions and loved teaching the trade. He was a proud GSA Certified Safe and Vault Technician, GSA Approved Container and Vault Door Inspector.
