Frank Harold Brabant Jr, 82, of Sparta, WI, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016, at the Tomah VA Medical Center. Frank was born April 1, 1934 to Frank and Ann (Sanders) Brabant Sr, in La Crosse, WI. His family moved to Sparta several years later where Frank went to school. He later enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served in both Vietnam and the Korean Conflicts. He retired 20 years later as a first class petty officer. While he was working with the Navy, he became very skilled as a jet engine mechanic. Frank was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He was also proud of being a successful participant and educator of the 12 step program. Frank is survived by his children, Gehl (Mary) of Tomah, Frank III of Madison, Charles of Mauston, John (Laura) of Oakdale, William of Sparta, Dixie Ann (Darren) Fries of Tomah, Dawn (Larry) Handschy of Ontario and Deana “Dee” Jerdee of Oakdale; brothers, Charles and Doug (Peggy) Brabant all of Sparta, WI; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth in 2008; a sister, Beverly Becker and two brothers, David and Darold. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at the Torkelson Page-Smith Funeral Home of Sparta, WI. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Farmer’s Valley Cemetery, rural Sparta, WI. Family and friends are invited for visitation Monday, October 3, 2016, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Page-Smith Funeral Home, Sparta. Visitation will also be held Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
