RYE - Ruth Worthington Rarer, 98, of Grove Road, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital following a brief illness.

She was the widow of Frederick C. Miller and of Edward B. Rarer, who died in 1992. Following her marriage to Mr. Rarer in 1949, they moved to Los Angeles, Calif., and in 1952 to Salt Lake City, Utah. They retired to Rye in 1967.

She was born in Merrimack, N.H. , April 6, 1907, the daughter of the late Josiah N. and Marguerite (Bushee) Henderson. She was a graduate of Manchester High School with the class of 1924 and attended Boston University's Sargent School in Cambridge, Mass.

During World War II, she worked at United Aircraft Co. (Pratt & Whitney) in East Hartford, Conn., as a proofreader and accountant. She later worked as a purchasing agent for Northeastern Engineering of Manchester, N.H. She served as president of the Salt Lake City YWCA, and after her retirement, volunteered at the Portsmouth YWCA and the United Fund Agency.

She enjoyed her music, art and painting, and reading with a book club. She was a member of the Rye Congregational Church, the Rye Art Study Group and the Driftwood Garden Club of Rye.

In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Lois E. and Francis Boldway, her brother Lawrence Henderson and her sister Lorraine Currier.

Family members include her son Frederick W. Miller, of Schenevus, N.Y.; six grandchildren: John Boldway, Jill Boldway, Cheryl Moore, Steven Boldway, Conrad Miller, and Bertha Miller; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

RARER - Ruth W. Rarer, 98, of Grove Road, Rye, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005. Services will be held at the Rye Congregational Church, Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will be prior to the service in Central Cemetery at 9:15 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. It was her request that flowers please be omitted, if desired, memorials may be made to Rye Congregational Church, 580 Washington Road, PO Box 862, Rye, NH 03870-0862 or the NH SPCA, PO Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885-0196. Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.
