Alexander was born in Westphalia, the son of Adam and Helena (Gross) Buchel. He married Anna Martin on 3 June 1924 at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Beal City. They were the parents of 3 children, Helen, Norman and Ronald. He later married Frances Martin on 17 May 1952 in Saginaw.
