He had been suffering some time with a sore on his foot which became irritated and on Friday he stopped work at John Gassman's store, where he was employed as clerk, and went home. Symptoms of blood poison developed and quickly permeated his entire system. His sudden death was deeply deplored. He was a faithful and trusted employee having been in the employ of Mr. Gassman for eleven years.
Mr. Funk was the son of the late Martin Funk and was born along the Cavetown Pike, about two miles from this city. He was raised on the home farm, and after marriage to Miss Katie Snyder, daughter of Mr. Jacob Snyder, of this city, engaged in farming near Salisbury for several years.
Afterward he came to this city and ever since has resided here. He was a member of Zion Reformed Church and also belonged to the Knights of Honor and Knights of Golden Eagle lodges.
The survivors are his wife and two children, Edward and Mary; and these sisters and brothers: Mrs. Florence Bachtel and Miss Kate Funk, near Beard's church; Albert, this city; John H., near Chewsville; and Calvin, near Beard's church.
The funeral took place Thursday from Zion Reformed Church; interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
