Born on May 1, 1931 in McGuiness Corner, Crumpton, MD, the son of the late Layton W. and Mamie Holden Russum. He grew up in the Crumpton area and attended school in Crumpton, MD. Ed began his farming career with a produce farm in Crumpton. He then worked for the Hosiery mill in Chestertown, MD. On January 2, 1954, Ed married Mary Margaret Kimble and they resided in Chestertown. Ed would later work as a dairy farmer for various farms in Queen Anne’s County. He also worked for Queenstown Harbor Golf Course as a groundskeeper until his retirement. Ed assisted his wife for many years cleaning branch offices for Queenstown Bank until 2014.
Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an active parishioner for many years with Our Mother of Sorrows and St. Peter’s parish.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Mary Margaret Russum; 4 children James A. Russum of Annapolis, MD; Teresa Hammer (Alan) of Centreville, MD; Shirley Anthony (Lonnie) of Queenstown, MD; Charles Franklin Russum (Terri) of Centreville, MD; brother William Alfred Russum of Salisbury, MD; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. In addition, Ed and Mary Margaret were foster parents to 41 children over 26 years.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 6-8 pm at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD. A mass will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016 at 10 am at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Centreville, MD. Burial will follow at Church Hill Cemetery.
