Mary Lou Miller, 74, passed away on September 26, 2016 at the Anthony Community Care Center in Anthony, Kansas. She was born on May 4, 1942 in Harper, Kansas to Charles Russell Francis and Laura Marie (Hopkins) Francis. Mary was one of three children and was raised in Harper. This is where she went to school, graduating from Harper High School with the class of 1960.
Previously married to Jack Van Hoozen, he died on December 2, 1990. She married Harvey Edward Miller on June 7, 1991 in Argonia, Kansas. Harvey passed away on October 23, 2009.
Mary was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge in Harper, the Harper County Square Dancers, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in which she was also a former district president.
In December of 2008, Mary moved to the Anthony Community Care Center and became part of their family. She had a stroke in 2007 that left her unable to talk very well but she still interacted and communicated in other ways. You could often find her playing Skip-Bo if she wasn’t off on one of the outings to places like the movies or the zoo.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her sister, Kathryn May Francis that died in 1955 at the age of 8; and brother, Billy Ray Francis. She is survived by a stepdaughter, Erma Moses and her husband, Clarence of Lyons, Kansas; stepson, Andrew Miller of Eagle Point, Oregon; two step granddaughters; three step great granddaughters; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper.
Graveside Service at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Harper Cemetery with Pastor Jerred Haydock officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Anthony Community Care Center and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
