Obituary

Rodger Gene Abbott passed away Sept. 23, 2016. He was born Nov. 4, 1953.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Ray Abbott; his mother, Ruby Jane Barber; sister, Camilla Kay Abbott; stepfather, A.B. Barber; granddaughters, Sawyer Kate and Skyland Blue Collins.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Gardner Abbott; daughters, Tonya (Shane) Cupp, Tiffany (Tim) Collins-Abbott; grandchildren, Hunter Cupp, Ella Abbott.

Rodger was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and businessman, who left a legacy of love and happiness behind him. His first job at 12 years old was at Harbison's grocery store. He had an entrepreneurial spirit, working a sales route in his teenage years selling 8-track tapes to gas stations. In 1972, he opened The Bull Pen clothing store with his wife, Debbie. For years, they enjoyed providing the public with beautiful clothing. They cherished the special friendships that they made along the way with both customers and employees. Rodger owned and operated T and T Motors for the last 20-plus years. He enjoyed collecting antique cars and managing his rental properties.

Rodger loved playing and coaching softball. Some of the happiest times of his life were spent coaching his daughters' and granddaughters' teams. His softball girls and parents were like family to him. He served on the city and county park boards and was instrumental in the opening of Heritage Park.

Rodger had a giving spirit and he loved life. He was actively involved in his church, serving on various committees and attending services each Sunday. Rodger was a family man and was happiest when he was with his family. He will forever be missed.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Moss Service Funeral Home, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Visitation was 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.
