William Darrell “Bill” Braddock, 71, of Morrill, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, Sept 23, 2016. Bill was born April 18, 1945 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the son of Darrell Ray Braddock and Florence Marie Langan Braddock. He was the fourth of six children.

At the age of seven, he sold peanuts and popcorn at the livestock sale barn on sale days. In 1960, the family moved to the farm north of Morrill.

Bill graduated in 1963 from Morrill High School. After school he started farming. On June 17, 1967, he married Kay St John in Morrill. Together they bought the neighboring farm in 1968 where they have farmed and resided ever since.

In 1963, Bill also started working the sugar beet campaigns at the Mitchell sugar factory until the factory closed and he moved to the Scottsbluff sugar factory where he worked until January 2015.

He was very dedicated to his family and to the farm. He took his job as the caretaker of the land seriously and worked day and night until the job was done. His greatest love was his wife, Kay, and his greatest accomplishments were his children. His greatest pleasures later in life were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He loved horseback riding, Sunday BBQs and picnics, and babies. No one ever went away from his table hungry and he was always there to help friends and neighbors.

He was one of the founding members of the Morrill Jaycees, an assistant Cub-Scout leader, an ASC county committee member for Sioux County. He was a past Trustee for the Scottsbluff-Gering Eagles Aerie #2998. He was an active member of the church.

He is survived by: his wife, Kay; three sons, Darrell Braddock (Bobbie) and Jim Braddock and Ted Braddock (Barbara); two daughters, Gail Bentz (Ron) and Betty Jo Pate (James); an adopted daughter Rebecca Campbell; brothers, Tom Braddock (Charlene) and Ed Braddock; sister, Maureen Hernandez; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, James Braddock; sister, Elaine “Betty” Moore; grandson, David Svalina; and daughter-in-law, Crystal Braddock.

Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Morrill. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill.
