Nola H. English-Lewis, age 88, of Canton, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2008. She was born on July 17, 1920, in Newland, NC to the late Jones and Modena English. She came from a hard life of farming in the mountains. Nola came to Canton in 1943 with her husband, Bill Lewis, raising two girls, Joyce and Lois, and two sons, Ron and John. Nola was the hardest working person on the farm and got her strength from God, as a devoted Christian, and will surely be welcomed into heaven. Nola loved birdhouses, flowers, gardening, reading and her Cabbage Patch dolls. Having a green thumb, Nola inherited a 150 year old cactus which she tended to throughout her life. She was also a master seamstress and cook. She took care of her husband for 50 years, truly taking the vow of marriage to heart. Nola was a very loving and giving person to everyone she came in contact with. In addition to her parents, Nola was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Lewis in 2002; daughter, Joyce Kaw; son, Ronald Lewis; four brothers, Claude, Luther, Wess and Lenzy English; and two sisters, Madge Erwin and Zona English. She is survived by her son, John Lewis of Canton; daughter, Lois (Donald) Meade of Akron; daughter-in-law, Sharon Lewis of Canton; six grandchildren, Don Jr., Tammie, Amy, Zachary, Scott and Ron Jr.; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Emma Calhoun of North Carolina; and special niece, Claudette Ollis of North Carolina. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 1pm in the All Nations Tabernacle Apostolic Church (3054 17th St. S.W., Canton, OH) with Rev. Scott Kerr Sr. officiating. Calling hours will be held on Friday (TODAY), September 5, 2008 from 6-8pm in All Nations Tabernacle. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.
