Barton – Frederick R. Smith, Jr., 42, a veteran of service with the infantry in the Asiatic-Pacific theater in World War II and the Korean conflict, died Monday in the West Roxbury, Mass., Veterans Hosptial.

He was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, a life member of Barton Post, American Legion and has served as post commander, adjutant and finance officer.
He was born in Bristol Feb. 26, 1925, the son of Fred and Daisy (Perkins) Smith. For the past 16 years he had resided in Barton.

He leaves his wife, Dorothy; a son, Brian; his brothers, Harry of South Deerfield, Mass., Harmon, Sherman, and Floyd of Springfield, Mass., Kenneth, of Barre, Rutherford of Bristol, and his sisters, Mrs. Doris McKinstry of Charlemont, Mass., Mrs. Isabelle Roberts of Bennington, Mrs. Ruth Brown of Hyde Park and Mrs. Marion Gilbert of New Jersey.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Barton United Church, with the Rev. Findley Brown officiating. Entombment will be in Riverside Memorial Tomb in Barton with burial in the spring in Westbrook Cemetery in Glover. Friends may call at the Converse Funeral Home, Barton, Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Converse Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
