Don Eugene Blanchard Sr.
March 26, 1927 - July 24, 2015

Don E. Blanchard Sr. passed away July 24, 2015. He was born March 26, 1927 in Houston, TX. to Claude Blanchard Sr. and Blondelle "Pat" Woods.
He graduated high school in Moss Point, MS. He then served in the US Navy. After discharge from the Navy, he attended the University of Mississippi on a football scholarship. He graduated with a Master Degree in Public School Administration in 1950. He met his future bride, Lillian Sweat, while attending Ole Miss. They married Oct. 5, 1951 in Corinth, MS. He coached in Mississippi for 5 years.
He then moved his family to Grand Prairie, TX where he continued his educational career with GPISD. Don was a coach and math teacher before becoming a school and central administrator for GPISD.
Don was a member of First United Methodist Church in Grand Prairie. He was also a Mason and active with the Diamond Jubileers Square Dance Club. He played softball until age 80. He was inducted into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame. He served many years at the GP Food and Clothing Co-op.
He has spent his life caring for his family and working for the community through his church and other organizations. He also coached numerous years in youth baseball. He was a great influence on many students and athletes.
Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lillian Blanchard. He is also survived by his brother Claude Blanchard of Houston, TX, son Don Jr. and wife Dora of Van Alstyne, son Pat and wife Wendy of Plano, granddaughter Felicia Hudson and husband Kevin, granddaughter Melissa Hagood and husband Josh, granddaughter Brie Garlock and husband Wesley, and 4 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Grand Prairie.
Services will be officiated by Rev. Steve Matthew. Family visitation will be at Bean Massey Burge Funeral Home from 6 to 8 P.M. on Monday July 27, 2015.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First United Methodist Church Grand Prairie, TX, GP Food and Clothing Co-op, or a charity of your choice in memory of Don. Special thanks to all who have given love and support to Don and his family.
