Francis G Herring, 60, of Fairfield R2, died Thursday morning at Warner Hospital where he was taken after being stricken while in Gettysburg.
Born in Fairfield, and a lifelong resident of Adams County. He was the son of the late John and Hannah Beard Herring.
He served with the U. S. Navy during World War II in the Panama Canal zone.
For the past 10 years he was a truck operator at the Har-Tru Corp., in Hagerstown, Md. Previously he had been employed by the Landis Machine Co., in Waynesboro.
He was a member of the Fairfield Fire Co.; the Adams County Volunteer Firemen's Association; Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association. He was a life member of the Fairfield Amvets Post 172.
His wife, the former Mary Jane Sanders, died in June of this year.
Surviving is a son, James F., Cashtown; three daughters, Mrs. Yvonne K Stahley, Mrs. Mary L Reecher, both of Fairfield R2 and Mrs. Linda Heller, Aspers; six grandchildren; a brother, Henry, of 47 Chambersburg St., Gettysburg; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Adams, Gettysburg R3; Mrs. Emma Myers, Fairfield R2 and Mrs. Teresa Rohrbaugh, Rouzerville, Pa.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 from the Monahan Funeral Home in Fairfield with Rev. David L Hunsberger officiating.
Interment will be in Fairfield Union Cemetery.
