Margaret Emily Chapman Rogers died on May 7, 2015 at the age of 88 at her home in Hendersonville, NC. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 61 years, Ralph Eugene Rogers, her parents, Charlie Zachariah Chapman and Bertie Lee Cogdill; also her brothers Algen Sidney Chapman, Eugene Rufus Chapman, and sisters Ada Lee Chapman Ivester, Edith Larue Chapman Cogdill, Mabel Samantha Chapman Overman, Francis Naomi Chapman Gladhill, Dorothy Jean Chapman Kaufman and grandson James Gregory Nash Courville. She is survived by her brother Bruce Caroll Chapman, daughters Eugenia Joyce Rogers Murray and husband Darrell, Sandra Margaret Rogers Tilden and husband Bryan, Cheryl Denise Rogers McElfish and husband Barry, son John Daryl Rogers and wife Revonda, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Margaret was born August 28, 1926 in Haywood County, North Carolina, graduated from Canton High School and received an accounting degree at Blanton Business School. Margaret was co-owner of Haywood Body Works with her late husband Ralph. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville. Living an active life of service, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars for 65 years, joining in 1949. She served in every office at the Local and District levels and held numerous offices at the Southern Conference, State and National levels including State President 1981-82, National Assistant Guard, Representative to the National Board as Council Member for North Carolina and South Carolina 1982-83 and received numerous State and National VFW awards for volunteer service. She was Grand President of the Women’s Auxiliary to the Military Order of the Cootie 2012-13. She was a charter member of American Business Women’s Association La Belle Pomme Chapter, the first president of the Ladies Auxiliary to BPO Elks Lodge 1616, served the community as a poll worker, and was an active member of her church.
Visitation and funeral service will be held on Monday, May 11 at First Baptist Church, 312 Fifth Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC, with visitation at 3:00 pm. and the service to follow at 4:00 pm. Arrangements are by Jackson Funeral Service, www.jacksonfuneralservice.com/. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Auxiliary Post 5206 Cancer Fund, Four Seasons Hospice, or First Baptist Church of Hendersonville.
