This bio is from W. H. Davis:

Notes for Willis Hamby Davis:Willis was a man ahead of his times. In the 1950's, he would have been a beatnik; later, he would have been ahippie. He was well educated and spent his time writing poetry and songs. He had a wonderful bass voice andsang in groups and in his church. Willis was a devoted Christian, who preferred the Free Will Baptist Church ashis church of membership. When with this children, he encouraged group singing. He was a master at throwinghorse shoes, which was a very popular game for Sunday afternoons in western NC.Willis felt that Christians should live with the bare necessities of life as to not show pride in holdings on thisearth. The "good life" was to be your reward when you reached Heaven. He lived in a log cabin with a dirt floor. The poem below was written by Willis and reflects how he felt about his home and his mansion in the hereafter:

"The Little Log Cabin
I dwell in a little log cabin.
It sits on a little flat noll.
It suits me well as a mansion.
It's built out of white oak pole.
It's high inside than round it.The floor it never gets wet.
It sure is a fine place in winter.
No cold comes up not a bit.
The floor space is 20 by 20.
It sits flat down on the ground.
The floor never gets dirty.
We keep the loose dirt packed down.
I claim to own 18 acres of very good mountain land.
Thought that's a mistake,
I just leased it
It belongs to the Lord I understand.
Some of these days, not many
Still it may be a few years.
I'll give up all my possessions, and
Go home where they shed no tears.
Then I hope to own a mansion.
Free of taxation and price.
And to be with friends and loved ones
And be with a Loving Christ.
