Jeffie was the youngest son of Thomas Allen Davis who died in the Civil War and Mary Ann Margaret Barnett. After his Father's death in 1864, the many Davis- Barnett marriages provided a firm support for him.

He married Annie Emily Palestine Smiley in Swain Co., NC on the 29 December 1885. He and Annie were the parents of 7 children:

Nora Lee Davis Calhoun (1887-1979)
Walter Theodore Davis (1889-1889)
Pearl Mae Davis Calhoun (1890-1973)
Samuel Edger Davis (1892-1963)
Elsie Lulu Davis Brooks (1898-1990)
Clarence Davis (1898-1979)
Leslie Vaughn Davis (1904-1996)
