Dickie Cooper, 71, of Stamford, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in Stamford. The family is honoring Dickie’s wishes of cremation and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jacob West officiating.

Dickie Cooper was born May 30, 1945 in Montgomery, Alabama, the son of the late Carl and Mavis Myree (McLemore) Cooper. He graduated from Stamford High School, Class of ’63. After high school, Dickie attended and graduated from Ranger Junior College, participating on the Rodeo Team. Dickie married Jeryl Anne Terrell in 1972. He was a lifetime resident of Stamford and was involved in many different organizations. Dickie served as Past President of the Bulldog Booster Club, coached Little League Baseball for over 30 years, and served as a 4-H mentor, assisting many kids with their 4-H projects at all levels of livestock shows. He was well known in the barbecue cook-off circuit, cooking all over the state, winning many awards, including a National Championship in Meridian, Texas. He also served on the Big Country Electric Operation Roundup. Dickie loved the Lord, and his true passion was to share his personal relationship with Christ with others. On Christmas Day, you would always find Dickie and Jeryl Anne working the take out line at the annual Christmas Dinner at St. John’s United Methodist Church. Dickie was very instrumental in the success of the Stamford Backpack Program, benefitting school children. Because of his dedication to this program, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Stamford Backpack Program, c/o First Baptist Church, P.O. Dickie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, serving in many capacities, including Sound Technician, driving the church bus, volunteering in the kitchen for Vacation Bible School and was willing to step in for anything in the church that needed to be done. Many things have been mentioned about Dickie, but of all these mentioned, he had a huge heart and was a true friend to many.
