Mark was born in Denton, Texas, to the late Bobby Lee and Cecil Dell (Trammell) Alexander, and spent his early childhood in Gulfport, Mississippi. In 1968, his family moved to Waco, Texas, and he graduated from Jefferson Moore High School in 1980. He received a B.S. degree in 1986 in behavioral science and a Master of education in 1990 in counseling and human development.
Mark was employed as a counselor at the Ben Richie Boy's Ranch in Abilene and subsequently at the Methodist Children's Home in Waco before entering the automobile business for 26 years.
Mark was formally a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church and was currently attending Harris Creek Baptist Church. Mark loved many things: God, his family, cars, guns, cigars, John Wayne, hunting, tennis shoes, fitness, and all of his children; some children he fathered and others he "daddied." Blood or not, he treated them all the same, what he did for one, he did for all!
Survivors include his children: Mark Landon Amburn, of Jacksonville, NC, Malcom Morgan, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Jacob Matus, of Waco, Naleigh Alexander, of Waco, and Paxton Alexander, of Waco; sister, Lisa Flenniken, of Dallas; nieces, Rachel Alexander and Sarah Flenniken; nephews, Jordan Alexander and Devin Flenniken; Godparents, Doctors Robert and Dorothy Barnes, of Abilene; other relatives and many friends.
