CARTHAGE — Mr. Roy Moore, age 86, of the Brush Creek Community, died Sunday evening, Sept. 18, 2016 at 11:30 p.m. at the Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville where he was admitted Friday the 16th suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Mr. Moore is at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home, where his services are scheduled to be conducted Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m. Eld. William Phillips and Eld. Dennis Croslin will officiate, and burial will follow in the Union Hill Church Cemetery in the Sykes Community.

The Moore family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday after noon.

Mr. Moore was one of four children born to the late James Bridges Moore and Edna Frances Allmon Moore.

He was preceded in death by three siblings, Mattie Elizabeth Moore, who died at birth; Willie Earl Moore, who died at the age of 19 months; and Cordell Bridges Moore, who died in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1994.

On Aug. 23, 1952, on the Bradley Farm, he was united in marriage to Brush Creek native the former Doris Mae Bradley. They were married by the late Eld. E. S. Frye.

Mr. Moore was a 1949 graduate of Gordonsville High School and received a B.S. in Agriculture Agronomy from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute in Cookeville in June of 1953. He was also in the first R.O.T.C. class at Tech.

Mr. Moore was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture, Cookeville office as a soil scientist for 30 years before retiring in 1985.

He was well known in the area for his sorghum-making in the fall each year.

Mr. Moore was a member of the Union Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sykes.

Surviving in addition to his wife of over 64 years are four children, Frances Phifer of Cookeville, James Bradley and wife Dianna of Summerton, S.C., Ann Benson and husband Lynn of Algood, and Paul Moore and wife Vickie of Smyrna; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Sanderson Funeral Home in Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
