James Homer Baker, whose youth was spent here, was killed by a rock crusher at Santa Monica, California, and his body was shipped here arriving Tuesday at Quanah, Texas, and was brought here by the Broyles Furniture Company for burial.

He was born in Central Texas, September 2, 1875, coming with his parents to Eldorado in 1889 from across Red River where his father located in 1888. His parents filed on the farm known as the Baker place southwest of Eldorado, and his mother was the first person buried in the Eldorado cemetery. He was one of the pioneer business men of Eldorado, working for different firms here. He was married Dec. 26, 1906, to Miss Bertha Cashmeyer, and to this union two daughters were born, both of whom survive him. One of these daughters, Mrs. Winifred Hobbs of Oklahoma City, was present at his funeral and burial. The other is a student at Durant and could not be present.

Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church of Eldorado at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. The pastor, G E B Snoddy, in charge, assisted by Rev. C Ball of Hastings. Minister C. L Taylor offered the invocation. Pall bearers were E B Minich, C C Wey, F A Hatch, J O Render, H C Moore and W F Farley. Relatives who attended the funeral included his wife and daughter, his brother, Lee Baker, of Tipton, a brother-in-law, Lester Starwalt, and two daughters and two sons of Claude Baker all of Blair, in addition to a number of relatives who reside here.
