A retired physician died Monday, September 19, 2016,at his home in the arms of his beloved family and his Lord.

He was born in Paterson, New Jersey, raised in North Carolina and a resident of Baton Rouge since 1958. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government Street, Tuesday, September 20, 2016, from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. Visiting at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Street, Wednesday, September 21, 2016, from 9 A.M. until Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 A.M. celebrated by Rev. Gerald Burns. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

He is survived by his daughters, Jeanne Elizabeth wife of Andrew Duke McGlathery,III, of Lake Charles; Patricia Ann wife of William Carl Hobaugh of Columbus, Texas; Kathleen Severn wife of Charles Frederick McDowell of Baton Rouge; and Bettye Ann wife of John Marc Browning of Ethel; 12 grandchildren, Shelley Ann McGlathery Guidry and husband Ryan, Matthew Baer McGlathery, Lauren Elizabeth McGlathery Todd and husband Ty, Tiffany Anne McGlathery; Eleanor Claire Hobaugh, Christopher William Hobaugh and wife Elizabeth, Katelyn Alise Hobaugh; Melissa Severn McDowell Ledet and husband Zach, Michael Charles McDowell, Sarah Eleanor McDowell; Robert Lawrence Browning and wife Alyssa and Timothy Marc Browning; 5 great grandchildren, Juliette Elizabeth and Duke Barrett Todd, Grayson Duke Guidry and Maddix and Cashe James Browning; and an anticipated additional great grandchild, Baby Ledet; a sister Elizabeth Baer Lewis of Lynchburg, Virginia; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence M. Werner, Smyrna Beach, Florida, and The Rev. George Werner, SMM, Long Island, New York.

Preceded in death by his wife Eleanor Werner Baer of forty-four years who died in 1999 and his second wife Anna Marie Achord whom he married in 2003 and she died in 2005; parents Elizabeth Severn and Herbert Ralph Baer of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; brothers-in-law Daniel C. Lewis and John F. Werner; sisters-in-law Mary Werner and Florence Werner.

During World War II he was a hospital corpsman in the Fleet Marine Force.

He graduated from Haverford College and Duke University School of Medicine. Post graduate training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology was obtained at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois; St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City and the University of North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He was a recipient of the National Institute of Health Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and past president of the Baton Rouge Academy of Internal Medicine. He was a physician at the Baton Rouge Clinic from 1958 until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Louisiana State Medical Society, the East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society, the Southern Medical Association and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology,

He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church where he served as an Eucharistic Minister and the Serra Club of Baton Rouge.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Sydney Lawton, Dr. James Calvin, Dr. Hubert Waguespack and Mr. Peter Cancienne.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Matthew McGlathery, Dr. Christopher Hobaugh, Mr. Robert Browning, Mr. Timothy Browning, Mr. Michael McDowell, Mr. Ryan Guidry, Mr. Ty Todd and Mr. Zach Ledet.
