The family moved to Ironton and J Arthur attended school at Marble Hill, Mo to study law. After school, he had a very active life in politics with the Democratic party serving as the Iron Co Chairman. He was the county treasurer, four terms as the prosecuting attorney, and two terms as State Representive. He died of heart failure starting his second term as Iron Co Magistrate and Probate Judge in 1955.
J Arthur and his family were loyal members of the Ironton Baptist Church where his memorial service was held.
