Anitra Spangler, 77, of Manteno, joined our heavenly father on Sunday (Sept. 18, 2016).

She was born March 8, 1939, in Kankakee, the daughter of Chester and Mildred (Schultz) Hertz. Anitra married Robert Spangler on June 12, 1960, at Central Christian Church in Kankakee.

She was a farmer most of her life. She was a volunteer at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee for many joyful years and took great delight singing in her church's choir. Anitra was an avid gardener and a speaker for the Christian Woman's Club. She had many wonderful years surrounded by her loving husband and children.

In addition to her husband of 56 years, surviving are four sons, Lawrence (Maggie) Spangler, Bryan (Leotta) Spangler, and Allen (Jennifer) Spangler, all of Manteno; and Rick (Juanita) Spangler, of Decatur; four sisters, Jeannine McNemee, of Bloomington, Winona Hoogstraat, of Clifton; Nola (Gerald) Hewus, of Des Moines, Iowa; and Eileen (Dirk) Rauglas, of Elmhurst; two sisters-in-law, Carol Hertz, of Florida, and Carolyn Hertz, of Crystal Lake; 14 grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Quentin and Dallas Hertz; brothers-in-law, Gerald Hoogstraat and Gerald McNemee; and one grandson, Korban Spangler.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Manteno Church of the Nazarene in Manteno. The Rev. Jack McCormick will officiate. After the service, there will be a time of visitation and fellowship from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Breast Cancer Research.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Manteno.
