She was born in Springfield, Illinois to Joseph and Maggie Walutcavicz Shimanckas.
She married John Atwood, and he died in 1956
She later married Leo Athey, and he died in 1969.
Survivors include her son, James (Paula) Atwood of Springfield; three grandchildren, Justin (Danelle) Atwood, Claire (Kurt) Lumbert and Elaine (Eric) Bidstrup, four great grandchildren, Ryan and Rory Lumbert and Trevor and Simon Bidstrup and one sister, Cassie Kohlrus.
Her parents, two husbands and one sister Adella Klasinz preceded her in death.
Margaret was a member of Unity Church in Springfield. She was a proud graduate of Ridgely School and Lincoln Land Community College.
She was a 50 year member of The Order of Eastern Star.
She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and was a former administrator at Sunny Acres Nursing Home and owned Christian Care in Mason City.
Visitation: 2-4 pm, Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home. A Rosary will be said in honor of Margaret at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral Service: 1 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Nash Shawgo officiating.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgely School.
