Her father Zadok Casey was a Methodist Episcopal preacher when she was born in 1819. He served many years in the Illinois State House, was Lt. Governor, and when Mahala married, he was a IL rep to the US House.

Mahala was the first wife of Rev. Lewis Dwight. She married Lewis Mar 24, 1840 in Jefferson Co, IL and died the next year a few days after the birth of their son, Samuel Lewis.

She was buried in Old Union Cem, Mt. Vernon, Jefferson co, IL along with
her parents, Zadok Casey & Rachel King,
her uncle, Isaac Casey and his wife Elizabeth Mackey
her cousin, William C. Casey and his wife Amy Barker
her brother, Hiram R. Casey
