Tony was born October 24, 1939 in Porto, Portugal to Adelaide Rosa (Ferreira) Held. His biological father was Gustave Edmond. His mother remarried and John Sikirica is Tony's stepfather. Tony married Patricia Strickland Logan on April 26, 1961 in Williamsburg, VA.

Tony served eleven years in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Army after twenty-two years of service at the rank of CW2. He spent fourteen years in security and law enforcement as a Criminal Investigator and eight years as an instructor in the USAF Security Police Academy and the Community College of the Air Force. He had a second career with Texas Instruments that lasted twenty-one years. At TI Tony served as the Site Service Manager and Security Supervisor in Abilene and Sherman. He obtained his BS in Criminal Justice Administration from Park College in 1976 and a BS degree from Wayland Baptist University in Business Administration in 1986.

Tony was devoted to his family and committed himself to helping those in need. He was an active volunteer with Find a Grave. He enjoyed traveling, playing and watching soccer, gardening, and golfing. Tony was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was a fulltime volunteer and devoted servant in many church activities.

Tony is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Held of Sherman; five children, Janet Hewett and husband Todd of Ft Worth, Kevin Held and wife Claire of Ft Worth, David Held and wife Cindy of Allen, Donna Harrison and husband Gary of Waxahachie, Tony Held Jr. and wife Ginger of Clyde, TX; thirteen grandchildren, Amanda Hansley, Michael Carvotta, Drew Hewett, Connor Hewett, Ashley Held, Justin Held, Steven Held, Kevin Held Jr., Kathleen Harrison, Alyssa Harrison, Tony Held III and wife Wendy, Clint Leslie, and Paige Leslie; eight great grandchildren, Tyler Hansley, Chandler Hansley, Chloe Hansley, Cheyenne Carvotta, Michael Carvotta Jr., Colton Carvotta, Emma Held, and Kinsey Held; a special niece Teri Jeevanjee and husband Zulfi, and their children, Ryan, Kiran, and Lauren; and one brother, John Philip "Jack" Sikirica of Warwick, RI.

Sherman-Tony Ferreira Held, 76, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 in Waxahachie, TX. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Wednesday, September 21 and visitation will follow until 8:00 PM at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 22 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Sherman. Father Jeremy Myers will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Sherman with Bill Crocket, Phil McKinney, Denis Krawietz, Tom Herrmann, Mel Connally, Frank McGraw, and Caesar Tobar serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be sons; Kevin Held, David Held, Tony Held Jr., Son in Laws; Todd Hewett, Gary Harrison, Nephew; Zulfi Jeevanjee, and great friend; Burrell Ketcham.
