I took his birthdate from a county bio on his brother-in-law, James Wilcox (Find-a-Grave #47809690). It gives his death date as 11 Sep 1831 but this can only be the birth date. The county bio also says "was sharpshooter in an Illinois regiment and died of blood poison from a wound in the hand received from falling in a trench, while fighting for his country."

He married in NY Mary Barnes. By 1860 he is living in Nunda, McHenry County, Illinois and they have a daughter Alice.

He enlisted in the 95 IL US Infantry Aug 20, 1862 and died Jun 18, 1863 in Memphis, TN.

The Illinois Civil War Report says he was born in Sardinia, Cataraugus CO, NY but Sardinia (with lots of other Crockers) is in Erie Co, NY.
