Raised in Portland, George A. Collins attended Standard University, class of 1922. He graduated with a degree in geology and joined Standard Oil of California where he work his entire career. He was involved in the development of Standard Oil's field in Venezuela during the mid 1920's. In his later career George A. Collins developed producing wells in the mountains behind Santa Barbara and Ventura.
