Leona Belle (Humbard) Jones, 90, died peacefully at home.

Born in Pangburn, Arkansas to Alpha E. and Martha Humbard, she grew up in a large, caring, Christian family engaged deeply in meeting spiritual and material needs of the poorest members of their community.

Along with her brothers, Rex and Clement, and sisters, Ruth and Juanita, she sang with the Humbard Family Singers from WKLR in Little Rock, Arkansas. She married Wayne Jones and traveled extensively with the Humbard family, singing and playing the accordion, mandolin and her enormous acoustic bass. Leona and Wayne settled in Akron, Ohio, where together they raised four sons with strength, accountability, purpose and morality- and a sense of humor.

Leona is known for her compassion, gentleness and ability to address spiritual needs in people from every walk of life. Together with ministry friends, Leona and Wayne expressed the love and forgiveness of Christ to individuals in communities on six continents. They are beloved for their fearless love of Christ and desire that everyone find hope in a relationship with the Jesus of the Bible.

In later years, Wayne and Leona made a life in Frankfort, Michigan where they welcomed old and new friends, and grandchildren.

Leona is survived by sons, Charles Wayne ("Bud") Jones III (Elizabeth) of Georgia, and Ron Jones (Lyn) of Green, Ohio. She is beloved by her grandchildren, Josh (Dawn), Jay, Jamie, Emily, Kate Sikes (Zach) and Abby Jones Sass (Dan). She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Jones; and sons, Robert (Lynn) and Jay Harold Jones.

A private graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park. Gifts in memory of Leona may be made to the Jay Harold Jones Scholarship Fund, c/o Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, 4687 Wyoga Lake Rd., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44224.
