Sarah (Sally) Elizabeth Southwick, formerly of San Francisco, California, passed away on 9/5/16 from Alzheimer's at Touchmark Memory Care in Meridian, Idaho. She was 75 years old and will be missed by her family and friends.
Sarah Southwick was born in Northampton, MA on November 9, 1940. She grew up on a farm with her two brothers, Dr. Edward Southwick, deceased, and Dr. Lawrence Southwick Jr. of Osprey, FL, and her parents, Lawrence and Caroline (Ingram) Southwick, both deceased, in Midland, MI. Sarah graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology (pre-med) from the University of Michigan in 1962 where she met her first husband, Dr. James W. Mullen, now of San Diego, CA.
Sarah and James married in 1963 in Kentucky during James' residency at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. They had two children, Kelly Shannon Powell of Hoschton, GA. and Tara Shay Vaughn of Boise, ID in 1968 and 1970, respectively.
Sarah and James divorced in 1972. After their divorce, Sarah followed her dream to live in California. She moved to San Francisco, CA in 1972 where she pursued a Doctor of Law degree. While her dream was to be a lawyer, Sarah pursued commercial real estate with great zeal, interest and success. Sarah was admired by her peers and received many real estate Top Producer commendations. Sarah was well known and actively involved in social and fashion venues, real estate endeavors and her Pacific Heights community. In addition, She supported charities for Alzheimer's and cancer research. She was an avid traveler, loved the arts, laughed often and lived life to its fullest. Her favorite places to visit were New York City, New York; Hamptons, New York; and, Capri, Italy.
Sarah retired as a realtor in 2013 when she moved to Boise, Idaho to be closer to her daughter, Tara.
Sarah is survived by her brother, Dr. Lawrence Southwick, Jr., and her two daughters, Kelly Powell and Tara Vaughn. Sarah has three grandchildren: Tori Powell, Connor Powell and Morgan Powell.
There will be private celebrations of her life in San Francisco, CA and Capri, Italy.
