1860 is on the marker but census records generally suggest that 1861 was his year of birth. His older sister, Isabel, was reportedly born December 15, 1859, making Feb 1860 impossible. The family was apparently missed in the census of 1860.

Scott Keithley, 88 [sic], Passed Away At Brother's Home

Funeral services for Scott Keithley were held Monday, Jan. 24, at the Walters funeral home at 2:00 p. m. Interment was in Glade City cemetery.

Scott Keothley [sic], the son of James and Frances (Veal) Keithley, was born in McDonough county on Feb. 6, 1861, and passed away at the home of his brother, William Keithley, in Blandinsville, at 11:55 Friday, Jan. 21, 1949, at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 15 days.

His entire life was spent in the Blandinsville community where he followed the occupation of farming until he retired and moved into town about 15 years ago.

On December 26, 1886 he was united in marriage with Addie Hainline who preceded him in death, having passed away on March 12, 1945. To this union seven children were born, six of whom survive: Mrs. Grace Rogers, Wyoming, Ill.; James and Harry Keithley, Macomb; Julia and Claude Keithley, Anaheim, Cal.; and Leland Keithley, Blandinsville. A daughter, Bertha Keithley, passed away in 1942.

Besides his children he also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Bell Butterfield, Mrs. [sic] Eva Keithley, both of Macomb; and Mrs. Dora Wilson, Denver. Two brothers, William Keithley, Blandinsville; and Fred Keithley, Good Hope, and seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren [sic], a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. A grandson, Charles Keithley, was killed in action in Belgium, in World War II.

Mr. Keithley united with the Willow Grove church when a young man. He was a kind and loving father, and a good friend and neighbor. The entire community joins with the family in mourning the passing of one of its most respected citizens.
