Funeral services for Wiley Ray Absher, 87, of Hanceville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Robert Lambert officiating, with burial in Holly Pond Cemetery. Mr. Absher died Thursday, Jan. 12 in Cullman. He was born in Cullman County on Nov. 20, 1918, to Spurgeon and Minnie Phillips Absher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 28 years Annie Pearl Absher; three brothers; and five sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Louise Kretzschmar Absher of Hanceville; son, Charlie Ray (Janice) Absher; daughter, Cynthia Diane Hamby; two stepdaughters, Luanne (Atlee) Beene of Chattanooga, Tenn., Sandra Eileen Sims of Fairview; four grandchildren, Emily (George) Crittendon of Hanceville, Becky (Thomas) Jones of Buford, Ga., Tyler Hamby, Trevor Hamby, both of Holly Pond; five stepgrandchildren, John Beene, Atlee Beene III, Virgilia Sims, Veronica Sims, Quinton Sims; three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
