BELMONT, MISSISSIPPI — Arlis M. “Bill” Ezzell, 89, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at the Red Bay Hospital. He was born in Franklin County to James Arthur and Zadie McKinney Ezzell. He was a heavy equipment operator for Cherokee Steam Plant for many years and also had worked at Belmont Homes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of First Baptist Church, Belmont, Mississippi.
Services will be Monday, Sept. 12, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Belmont, Mississippi with Brother Ray Burks and Brother Bud Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Red Bay. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two children, Donnie Ezzell (Cynthia) of Muscle Shoals and Judy Ezzell Govatos of Saltillo, Mississippi; four stepgrandchildren, Mitch Davis (Marie) of Red Bay, Kelli Thrasher (Brenden) of Killen, Bart Davis and Drew Davis, both of Muscle Shoals, six stepgreat-grandchildren, Jade Walker, Kelsey Davis, Gracie Davis, Kruze Thrasher, Dylan Thrasher and Brycen Thrasher; two sisters, Ollie Mae Holt of Red Bay and Sybil Chessor of Brentwood, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; faithful caregiver, Sheila Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Bruton Ezzell; his parents; and two sisters, Marvalene Ezzell and Berniece Sikes.
Pallbearers will be Randy Johnson, Darrin Caldwell, Keith Sikes, Lean Sparks, Bart Davis and Drew Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy McKinney, Truman Peden, Terry Gann, Bobby Joe Reid, Raymon Carr, Allen Wayne Belue, Jimmy Goza, Wayne Gray, Wallace Williams, R.C. Byram and Chris Moore.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS. He will lie-in-state Monday, from 9-11 a.m. at First Baptist Church.
