Claire M. Abbott, affectionately known as Gakey, passed away peacefully in her beloved home on Wednesday, December 6th, at the age of 98.
Born on January 28th, 1908, in Winfield, Illinois, she was the youngest and last surviving child of Barbara and Alexander Higgins.
Claire married A.J. Beck in 1928, and they were blessed with five children prior to his premature passing in 1943. She went on to create a new life with Jim Abbott who relocated the family to Southern California in 1941.
After setting up a comfortable life in Westwood, they decided to move the family again in 1961 to the little known waterside community of Naples, in Long Beach. This decision would ultimately prove to be fortuitous, for the home they created became the heart and soul of an ever-growing dynasty which today includes sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Claire's many joys included gardening, reading, cooking & entertaining, and decorating for every holiday. Her true passion, however, was for her family. She loved us unconditionally and wholeheartedly. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will transcend time.
Claire is survived by her four children, Bonnie Hart, Nancee Tinsley, Sharon Marsh and Ted Beck.
She is preceded in death by her eldest son, Jerry Beck.
