Obituary in The Shreveport Times January 7, 2011:

SHREVEPORT, LA - Services to honor the life of Mr. Fred C. Strange, 92, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home with Mr. Dwain Wilemon officiating. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Mr. Strange was born in Jena, LA to the late Isom C. and Mattie Strange and passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2011. He was a native of Jonesville, LA and resided in Shreveport since 1950.

Fred was a watchmaker by trade, employed by McCary's Jewelers and later Mounce Jewelers in Shreveport. He also owned and operated Precision Watch Repair and Jewelry until his retirement. He was a charter member of Sunset Acres Baptist Church and served as a deacon and as superintendant of Sunday school for many years. Because of his love for people, he belonged to many clubs and organizations which included the Eastern Star, American Legion, Moose Lodge, Elks Club, D.A.V., and Watchmaker and Jewelers Association of Shreveport.

Fred served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII. During the battle of the bulge, he was captured and spent the remainder of the war in a German prisoner of war camp. It wasn't until the end of the war that Fred was liberated. Fred would say his faith in Christ sustained him in all his times of need.

Mr. Strange was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; three brothers; three sisters; and his parents. Left to honor his memory are his sons, David Strange and wife, Elizabeth, and Darryl Strange; five grandchildren, Clint and Kevin Strange, Debbie Tindall and husband, Damon, Melanie Karambellas and husband, Mike, and Karen Ford and husband, Darren; and four great-grandchildren, Sierra, Devin, Emily and Nicholas.
