Cleo Lois Birchett Arrington, 96 years of age, of Mt. Gilead, NC passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016 peacefully in her sleep at home.

Cleo was born April 22, 1920 in Tiger, Texas to the late R.C. Birchett and the late Birtie Lee Rickman Birchett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dan Arrington, who passed away in 1994; daughter, Dorothy Liner; step-son, Tim Arrington; and brothers, Cliff, Alva, and Bob Birchett.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Christ Episcopal Church, 428 Pee Dee Ave., Albemarle, NC. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Dr. James Bernacki and Pastor Bob Gruver. There will be a service in Houston, TX on Saturday, September 17, 2016. She will be buried at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston, TX.

She is survived by her step-daughter, Tracey Arrington Fisher and husband Steve of Mint Hill, NC; step-son, Jeff Arrington of Texas; brother, Kenneth Birchett and wife Tilly of Arizona; grandchildren, Sean and Mary Fisher of Mint Hill, NC; niece, Wanda Monroe of Texas; Goddaughter, Elizabeth Heard Clarke of Texas; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Cleo was a master bridge player and was a mover and a shaker in politics. She was a gourmet cook, and edited for a cook book. Cleo was an devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church. She was active in her church, serving on the vestry and was a highly motivated fundraiser. She enjoyed working out at the YMCA, which she did into her early 90s. Cleo was a wonderful and devoted friend and family member. She enjoyed sharing her wisdom like, "feathers in the wind".

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her devoted caregiver, Melanie Bryant, for her steadfast compassion and love of our mom over the last seven years.
