Lucy Elizabeth "Beth" Buford
November 16, 1924 - August 29, 2016
Resident of San Jose

Lucy Elizabeth "Beth" Buford passed away peacefully early Monday morning, August A 2016, at her home in San Jose, CA with family by her side.

She was born on November 16, 1924, the beloved daughter of Maggie Sweeney Dalton and Hugh Benton Dalton. Like her mom, she was a native Californian, and her dad was born in Kentucky She was the eldest of two children. Her brother, Jim Dalton, predeceased in 1981.

Beth is survived by her only child, Beverly Ashburn of Los Gatos, CA, son-in-law, Tom Ashburn, granddaughter, Kimberly Ashburn Roa (Christian) of San Jose, CA, grandson, Matthew Ashburn of Las Gatos, and great granddaughter, Whitney Elizabeth Roa of San Jose. Whitney always put a big smile on "GC's" (Great Grandma's) face. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Bertha Buford (Winston predeceased), and Charles Buford (Bonnie predeceased), and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Mom was torn and raised on the family ranch in Visalia, CA on Demaree Rd. She attended elementary school at Willow School which was located at the corner of her families ranch on Demaree and Riggin Rd. The building still sits on that corner. She attended Redwood High School.

She lived on the family ranch her whole life, until she met the "love of her life", Raymond Pierce Buford (pre-deceased, March 2014). They married on April, 14, 1947, and had a wonderful life together for 66 years, they were just one month short of 67 years. They made their home in Ivanhoe, CA for most of those years, until they moved to San Jose, CA in 2004 to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. We were blessed to have them both in close proximity for 10 yrs., and mom for 12 years.

She will be greatly missed by all of us for her happy, sweet, loving disposition, and her thoughtful, helpful ways. She was a homemaker all of her married life. She got great joy and pleasure providing a home for her family. She kept an immaculate home and she was a great cook! Everyone who knew her, knew this about her. Mom was a sweet caring person who saw the good in everyone. She loved being around her family and friends. She loved family picnics, church potlucks, going out to dinner, and all social gatherings, even if it was just around one of her aunt's tables with her mom, everyone visiting, and drinking coffee or ice tea. The "good old days"!

Mom & dad were devoted Christians, it was a very big part of their lives. They attended The Church of Christ in Ivanhoe for many years. Mom taught Sunday school for several years, she enjoyed the children very much. From time to time she would take them for fun activities like skating & the movies. She was also active in their weekly Ladies Bible Study For many years of their Christian life, mom & dad would attend church on Sunday morning, go out for lunch, and then spend the afternoon visiting the elderly, and the sick in hospitals and nursing homes.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service for mom at the Pavilion in The Visalia Cemetery on Friday September 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M., 1300 W. Goshen Ave., Visalia CA 93291. The family invites you to join them following the service at The Vintage Press Restaurant on their patio, 216 N Willis St Visalia. If you should wish, in lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to a charity of your choice , or, because of her great love for all animals, to The Valley Oak SPCA in Visalia, 29010 California 99, Visalia, Ca. 93277, or The Silicon Valley Humane Society 901 Ames Ave., Milpitas, CA 95035, made in mom's name.
We want to send special thanks and gratitude to the VITAS Hospice for all of their special care for mom, and comfort and support to our family in mom's last few days.
