Doris Louise (Watters) Cameron 98, wife of the late George Dick Cameron died September 5, 2016. Doris was born in Nova Scotia, Canada the youngest in the family of William Dingle Watters and Janet Ruth Lewis. Doris lived in Cranston, Rhode Island for almost 70 years, the last 16 years at Meshanticut Vista Apartments. She was personnel manager of W.T. Grant’s in Providence, hiring and training staff there as well as at their new store openings. After Grant’s had closed, she worked in the Payroll Department at Rhode Island Hospital, hand writing pay checks for all the doctors. Doris loved her church, St. David’s-on-the-Hill. She and George helped raise funds for the land and building. She, George and her son Al, as an acolyte, helped to lay the cornerstone in 1954. She was the founder of “The Grannies” and with them, managed the bi-yearly Bazaar for 50 years. She was member of The Daughters of the Argyle, and Doris and George were past presidents of the Wally Byam Airstream Caravan Club proudly displaying an early number, 618. They traveled home to Nova Scotia every summer, to Florida and even to Alaska. In recently declining health she had moved to Mount St Rita’s Health Center in Cumberland, Rhode Island. As an avid Red Sox fan, she watched and rooted for them watching all their games. She is survived by her son Alexander Cameron and wife Diane (Clark) of Southborough, Massachusetts, granddaughters Heather and husband Joseph Devine of Northborough, Massachusetts, Kathryn and husband Daniel Barry of Lake Mary, Florida, great grandchildren Joshua and Keri Devine, niece Irene Arthur of Moncton, New Brunswick, and nephew Douglas Watters and his wife Marjorie of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday September 10th at 11:00am in St. David’s on the Hill Episcopal Church 200 Meshanticut Valley Parkway Cranston. A collation will follow immediately after the service in the church hall. Visitation will be held Saturday morning prior to the service in The Butterfield Chapel 500 Pontiac Avenue Cranston beginning at 9:30am. A private burial will take place at a later date.
