The war interrupted his studies for a time. He was a Medical Tech 4th Grade in the US Army's 361st Infantry. The soldier saw duty in Africa, Anzio, the Alps, Florence, Rome, Venice and Nice. In seven days of fighting 600 of the 800 soldiers were killed.
He returned to Palestine and married Martha Jeanne Laumen, had two children completed a career with the railroad, oil industry, vegetable sales and operating the family owned Palestine Coca-Cola/Dr. Pepper Bottling Company.
