Darlene L. Burvee-Schaffer, age 85 of Hampton, died peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, following a brief illness.

Darlene Luella, the daughter of Everett and Jesse (Martin) Jarman, was born on January 22, 1931, in Timber Lake, South Dakota. Following her graduation in 1948 from Doland High School in Doland, South Dakota, Darlene was united in marriage to Richard W. Burvee on November 4, 1951, in De Smet, South Dakota. They were blessed with five children prior to his passing on July 22, 1989. Darlene later married John Schaffer on May 27, 2000 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Trier. She was a longtime homemaker and receptionist at Smead Manufacturing in Hastings. Darlene enjoyed being the organist at Hastings United Methodist Church for many years, going to the casino, playing cards, and was a member of the Hastings Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her three brothers and two sisters; her first husband, Richard; her son, Jon Burvee; her great granddaughter, Breanna Burvee; and by her sons-in-law, Mike Peterson and Steve Unger.

Darlene is survived by her husband, John of Hampton; her children, Terry (Ann) Burvee of Cannon Falls, Steve (Gail) Burvee of Stacy, MN, Sandra Unger of Hastings, and Pam (Bill) Nicoll of Hastings; her 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, with another on the way; her sister, Isla Hoffman of New Ulm; and her sister-in-law, Lorraine Jarman of Huron, SD. Darlene is also survived by her six step children and 12 step grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Trier, with Father Cole Kracke officiating. Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Hastings, and will continue at church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service.
