A celebration of his life will be held from 12 noon to 3 pm Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Boll's Community Center in Princeton, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the Princeton Volunteer Fire Department or the Princeton Lions Club.
McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
John was born February 27, 1956, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Robert and Karen (Wilson) Auliff and was a 1974 graduate of North Scott High School in Eldridge, Iowa.
He was employed as a machinist and was formerly employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company of Mt. Joy, Iowa and Red Jacket Pump of Davenport, Iowa.
John was an avid New Orleans Saints fan, enjoyed playing video poker and had a "mean" chili recipe enjoyed by his family and friends. He was the type of person who was always willing to lend a hand to others wherever help was needed.
John was preceded in death by his father, Robert Auliff in 2004 and his sister-in-law, Julie Auliff in 2006.
Those left to honor his memory include his mother, Karen Auliff of LeClaire; his sisters, Peg (Ken) Ferris of Blue Grass, Iowa and Kelly (Rod DeBlieck) Auliff of Eldridge; his brothers, Robert "Pete" Auliff of Walcott and his close friend, Linda Petersen and Joe (Cathy) Auliff of DeWitt, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
