Allen Beamer Purdy, former Weatherford resident, died last Thursday in Oklahom City. His death was attributed to a heart attack. He was 60 years old.
Funeral services were Monday afternoon from the Church of Christ in Weatherford with James Jarrett, pastor of the church officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
He was born Januray 28, 1912 near Jester in Greer county, Oklahoma and lived in the Brinkman-Jester area until 1921 when the family moved to Washita county. He came to Weatherford with his family in 1926 and was graduated from Weatherford High School. While attending Southwestern State College, he was an Oklahoma collegiate confernece wrestling champion for three years.
In 1933 he was employed as a salesman in Oklahoma City and in 1935 was married to Miss Ruth Sanders in Elk City. They moved to California in 1947 and lived there until 1966 when they returned to Okalhoma City.
His mother, Mrs. Etta Purdy, passed away here in April of this year.
Surviving him are his wife, Ruth, of Westminister, Calif.; two sons, Joseph Donald Purdy of Weatherford and John Allen Purdy of Red Bluff; four sisters, Mrs. R. D. (Opal) Moore of Oklahoma City, Mrs. H.S. (Lois) Coffman of Garden Grove, Calif., Mrs. Ila Fern Lowry of Redlands, Calif. and Mrs. LaRita Miller of Santa Ana, Calif., two brothers, Joe S. Purdy of Santa Ana, Calif., and Don L. Purdy of Wichita Falls, Texas; and two grandchildren.
