The death of Dr. Edmund J. Beardsley occurred at 8:55 this morning at his home, 216 1/2 North Harrison street. Dr. Beardsley's death is the result of several strokes of paralysis, the last stroke coming about four months ago. Saturday evening a turn for the worse was noticed and members of his family were notified...A son from California is expected to arrive....
Dr. Beardsley was born in Warrick county, Indiana, January 26, 1861, and was 60 years, 1 month, 2 days old at the time he passed away. He lived on a farm until he was 18 years of age when he took up the profession of teaching, and taught for a number of years. He was also a Baptist minister for several years, filling several pulpits in the vicinity of Decatur, Indiana. Later he studied medicine and was graduated as a homeopathist from the Chicago Homeopathic school in 1886. He was married in 1883 to Miss Mollie McClain at Franklin, Indiana. He came to Alexandria in 1904 and began the practice of his profession as homeopathic and osteopathic physician. He also started a 5 and 10 cent store which he has conducted ever since at its present location. He has served as city health officer for the past ten years and has always been conscientious and faithful in the discharge of his duties. During the war, when the flu epidemic was at its height, Dr. Beardsley did his best to prevent the spread of the disease, and it was largely to his efforts that Alexandria had so few fatalities resulting from that scourge.
Deceased is survived by his wife and three sons, Carl, of California, Paul and Harry, of Alexandria. Also two brothers, John, of Dale, Indiana and Dr. H. C. Beardsley, of Cleveland Ohio.
The funeral of Dr. Beardsley will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home. Rev. Lew Allen of Indianapolis, will officiate. Burial will follow at Park View cemetery.
